Random Photographs | June - December 2023

My biggest takeaway from this year is that now, more than ever, I am of the sound belief that everything I’ll ever need to know in life was learned while working at an amusement park and from having watched professional wrestling as kid. There’s too many examples to list as corroborating evidence for this theory, so you’ll just have to take my word for it.

Typically, I find New Year sentiments to be about as sincere as anything posted on LinkedIN. However, at this moment today: I hope you find as much peace in this holiday season as I once found while laying in the grass of San Francisco’s Alamo Square Park, staring at the houses from the opening credit sequence of the television show, Full House.

Thank you—truly—for reading, following, and viewing my work all these years. There’s more to come in 2024 following today’s edition of “random photographs that didn’t necessarily have a place in a larger story or post.”

Had the privilege of documenting Annie & Justin’s Rehearsal Dinner and then celebrating their wedding (a.k.a. drinking a lot of gin and then taking some of their guests to Dixie Chili + Waffle House).

Heard a rumor at Uncle Leo’s once that if you go to krazy straws dot com (yes, with a “K”), that the character limit is 10 and they don’t care what you ask them to spell out.

I shot a story in rural Kentucky over the summer with some friends. It’s one that I’m incredibly excited to share and one which will hopefully be ready in early 2024. Finding a busted open Faygo vending machine while visiting the subject was just the icing on a “RedPop” flavored cake.

Cincinnati’s majestic, historic, and beautiful Union Terminal is also known as “The Hippodrome” in the majestic, historic, and beautiful 1995 film Batman Forever. All of this was once commemorated in majestic, historic, and beautiful souvenir glasses sold at McDonald’s.

Back with more in the new year.

Since 2007, the content of this website (and its former life as Queen City Discovery) has been a huge labor of love.

If you’ve enjoyed stories like The Ghost Ship, abandoned amusement parks, the Cincinnati Subway, Fading Ads, or others over the years—might you consider showing some support for future projects?
